Maremonti Cycle and Pedestrian Path: from Levanto to Bonassola and Framura

For a flat, accessible and truly unique route, the Maremonti Cycle and Pedestrian Path is a gem of the eastern Ligurian Riviera. Created along the old disused railway line and inaugurated in 2011, the promenade runs directly beside the sea, alternating cool illuminated nineteenth-century tunnels with spectacular openings onto hidden coves and wild cliffs.

Route step by step

1. Departure from Levanto — Vallesanta

The itinerary starts at the western end of Levanto Bay in the Vallesanta locality. The entrance is broad, well signposted and organised into separate lanes: one for pedestrians and two directions of travel for bicycles. From the first metres, the route enters the former railway tunnels, now fully paved, renovated and equipped with modern sensor-controlled artificial lighting.

2. Stop in Bonassola and sea windows

The real magic of the Maremonti path lies in the alternation between shadow and light. Between one tunnel and the next, the itinerary opens onto natural balconies and windows cut into the rock.
After approximately 2.6 kilometres, it emerges directly in the heart of Bonassola, where the path follows the village's broad beach. This is an ideal stop for ice cream, Ligurian focaccia or a refreshing swim.

3. Arrival in Framura — Vandarecca locality

Beyond Bonassola, the path enters the tunnels carved into the rock again for another 3 kilometres. This second section is even wilder and provides access, via stairways and dedicated trails, to unspoilt small beaches that are almost inaccessible by land, including the evocative Spiaggia di Porto Pidocchio.
The route ends above the small harbour of Framura, in the Vandarecca locality. Here, a modern panoramic lift and a pedestrian walkway connect the end of the path directly with the railway station and the seaside village below.
