A flat cycle-pedestrian route between Levanto, Bonassola and Framura, built on the former coastal railway trackbed.
Why visit it
It is one of Levanto's easiest outdoor experiences: sea views, railway history, slow mobility and a direct link to Bonassola and Framura.
Description
The Maremonti route links Levanto, Bonassola and Framura along a mostly flat path, much of it in tunnels, with scenic openings onto the sea. Tourist sources describe it as an easy itinerary for walkers and cyclists, about 5-6 km long. Some sources recall that the route follows the former Genoa-Pisa railway, with nineteenth-century sections connected with 1874.
History and context
The path reuses the trackbed of the old coastal railway, abandoned after twentieth-century railway doubling works. Its recovery transformed tunnels and open sections into one of the most accessible and panoramic routes in the area.
How to get there
From Levanto, access is in the Vallesanta area, near the renewed seafront; the route continues towards Bonassola and Framura.
Accessibility and practical notes
Generally flat and easy, but shared by walkers and bikes. Check for closures, maintenance or temporary restrictions.
Local tips
Recommended in the morning or at sunset. Bring a light for tunnel sections and respect the shared use by pedestrians and cyclists.
Curiosity
The conversion of a railway into a seaside promenade is one of the most successful tourist reuses of the Ligurian landscape.
